The Optical Commnications team in AITC will detail their ongoing development of the newly constructed Optical Ground Station at Mt Stromlo. Optical communications provides higher data rates than traditional radio frequencies and smaller resource consumption. The technology will unlock high bandwidth communications to deep space (the Moon, Mars and beyond). Instrument development in this project is being performed in collaboration with NASA and aims to support the Optical to Orion (O2O) mission on Artemis II, the next crewed flyby of the Moon. Visiting collaborators from NASA heading up the O2O program will also present on some of their work and pioneering advancements in the field. There will be a catered afternoon tea to follow in Possum Hall. |
