The 2.3m telescope and the WiFeS instrument transitioned to automated operation in March 2023 and has been operating robustly for several months. The project required a major overhaul of the software control system and user interface, with almost no changes to the hardware. The talk will present the architecture of the system, the underlying design principles, and an explanation of how it actually works in practice. The features available will be briefly outlined and I’ll discuss the change in mindset required by WiFeS observers to move from classical scheduling to queue scheduling, and the advantages and disadvantages of the latter. |
