Flows with high Knudsen number, due either to low density or small scale, can present significant challenges for experimental measurements. Laser diagnostics, when used appropriately, can assist both in visualising and in making measurements in such flows. In this talk I will present some measurement techniques we have developed for low-density plasmas and hypersonic flows, and will present a proposal for measurements using electron beam fluorescence at the very low densities characteristic of low-earth orbit. |
