"Invited Colloquium: The next generation for supernova cosmology and time-domain astronomy"

Vera C. Rubin Observatory will open a new era for optical astronomy. For 10 years, Rubin will image the Southern Sky at unprecedented depths through the Legacy Survey of Space and Time (LSST). I will introduce Fink, selected to process LSST time-domain data. Fink is designed to identify and communicate the most promising time-domain candidates for a breadth of science. LSST holds the keys to fundamental questions such as the nature of Dark Energy and the characterisation of astrophysical events. To make this leap, I will review recent results and advances in supernova cosmology from the Dark Energy Survey. I will also highlight the potential of studying new events such as kilonovae to characterise our Universe and its extreme physics. Finally, I’ll discuss the potential of connecting Rubin with Australian facilities through Fink to harness unique opportunities for cosmology and multi-wavelength and messenger astronomy.
