"Invited Colloquium: Planet Formation and Evolution Revealed by Exoplanet Host Stars in the Galactic Context"

For most of the subfield’s history, exoplanets have been studied without regard to their Galactic context. Gaia has now overturned this state of affairs and enabled for the first time precision studies of exoplanet host stars in the Galactic context. I’ll describe how Galactic kinematics can provide precise model-independent relative ages for exoplanet host stars and highlight the impacts those relative ages have had on our understanding of the origin and fate of short-period planets.
