"Laser Guide Star Systems: the ESO Adaptive Optics Facility and ongoing LGS Technologies R&D"

Adaptive Optics with Laser guide star is the most modern tool for the astronomical observations, in which high spatial resolution is required. After more than 20 years of developments, it has reached full maturity and routine operation, allowing galactic and extragalactic observations with optimum and unique scientific returns. In this talk I will speak about the ESO VLT Adaptive Optics Facility, the most recent LGS-AO project of ESO, now in full operation at Cerro Paranal, Chile. Of course, the astrophysicists appetite for more discoveries with future ELTs, requires to win more LGS-AO challenges, via further technology developments. I will therefore speak about some ongoing ESO Technology Developments, related to future LGS-AO systems.
