MAVIS just passed its conceptual design mid term review. During the past eight month since the start of the conceptual design phase, the international MAVIS team came up with a baseline design that fulfils the ambitious instrument requirements: provide both an imager and a spectrograph with diffraction limited images down to 450nm and over a field of view of 30x30 arcsec. Numerical simulations and optical design fed trade-off studies that eventually resulted in the baseline design. We will present a snapshot of the MAVIS current status, including programmatic, performance, science, funding and the future of MAVIS. |
