"AITC Series - Laser Tomography in High-order Adaptive Optics"

Future wide Field of View high-order Adaptive Optics (AO) systems will be using multiple laser guide stars (LGSs) and deformable mirrors (DMs) conjugating at different altitudes (Multi-Conjugate AO, MCAO). A tomographic reconstructor is required in such systems to compute the MCAO corrections to be applied to DMs. While classical tomography algorithms like tSVD or MMSE are still used in existing AO systems, Learn And Apply (LAA), a novel tomography approach first proposed in 2010 on Multi-Object AO systems, has the potential of delivering better, more uniform performance with the help of multiple fictive sensors. In this talk I will present my PhD progress with respect to AO tomography algorithm simulations from year 2018, including atmosphere turbulence model, tomography algorithms and performance analysis.
