The gender gap in the sciences is a global phenomenon, and appears to be the result of both discipline-driven and societal culture-driven factors, among others. Several initiatives towards gender parity in the sciences in India have occurred at the national, governmental levels. The drivers of the gap in India are explored using available empirical investigations and theoretical insights from gender studies. The implications for policy will be discussed. |
