CSIRO Astronomy and Space Science operates the Australia Telescope National Facility (ATNF), comprising the 64-m Parkes radio telescope, the Australia Telescope Compact Array (ATCA) and the Australian Square Kilometre Array Pathfinder (ASKAP) and, with the addition of other telescopes, operates the Long Baseline Array (LBA). CASS also manages astronomy use of NASA’s Canberra Deep Space Communication Complex 70-m and 34-m antennas at Tidbinbilla. In this talk we will give an update on the ATNF and discuss its transition into the SKA era. It is clear that we do not have the funding to maintain the full ATNF capabilities across all our telescopes. That means we need to look for new funding or roles for the telescopes and make some choices about the available capabilities. We are seeking your input into how the ATNF might best serve the community over the coming decade. |
