Rationale

We are pleased to announce a Symposium on 2-4 October 2024 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the inauguration of the Anglo-Australian Telescope on 16 October 1974. The Symposium will be held at Siding Spring Observatory and will highlight the telescope’s past achievements, present status and plans for the future.

There is no registration fee.

Venues

The symposium will be held in the Lodge Conference Room at Siding Spring Observatory.  

Transport between the Observatory and Coonabrarbran will be provided each day before the start of the first talk and after the end of the last talk. 

Participants will be able to travel to the Observatory independently if they wish. Parking will be available in front of the lodge. 

Morning tea, lunch, and afternoon tea will be provided.

Accommodation and Travel

Accommodation is likely to be tight during the Symposium, so book early.

There are many motels to choose from in Coobarabran. Still, we strongly advise participants to book early.

There will be a bus travelling from Sydney to Coonabarabran on October 1st and another bus travelling from Coonabarabran to Sydney on October 5th. Please register your interest below.

Welcome Reception and Dinner

 

The welcome reception will be at the Coonabarabran Town Hall on Tuesday, October 1st at 6 pm. The reception is free of charge.
