Conclusions:


  1. Main sequence stars (M > 8 Msun will evolve until a red giant and then:
    1. go supernova and the core will collapse into a black hole under its own gravity after accreting material, or
    2. collapse directly into a black hole
  2. The maximum mass of a neutron star lies between 1.5 and 2.0 Msun.
  3. About the critical mass of going supernova or not I could not find anything, or calculate something by myself.
  4. Probably the assumption that binaries evolve like single main sequence stars is wrong and therefor the chances that a black hole will be found is smaller.
