These movies show the distribution of the galaxies in the Shapley Supercluster, a large overdensity of galaxies. The centre of the data cubes is at RA = 13h29m09.49s DEC = -31d37m34.3s z = 0.0500. The data cubes have a width of 71 Mpc (5000 km/s).
The movies show the K luminosity density for different regions in and around the Supercluster. The value of the K luminosity density was generate by combining the luminosity of neighbouring galaxies using the Gaussian weighted sum. The smoothing size listed above is the radius at which the Gaussian used had a weight of 0.5, i.e. it is half the FWHM of the Gaussian.
Galaxies included in the K luminosity density measurement were limited to those brighter than the apparent K magnitude limit of the 6dFGS at the edges of the volume considered. The 6dFGS K magnitude limit is 12.65
