Sample Abstract

Canberra in Early December

Canberra is a great place to be in early December, the first month of Summer. Usually
the weather is not too hot  with an average minimum and maximum of $11^\circ$ and
$26^\circ$ respectively. Nevertheless, the temperature can be variable with significant
excursions from the mean so that backup cold weather gear is recommended. This period
is a good time to enjoy the outdoors and during this meeting we have scheduled an
excursion to the Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve, which is a popular spot for locals and
tourists alike. Either before or after the meeting you may wish to visit the South
Coast of New South Wales, about two hours by road from Canberra and stay at one of
the beautiful beaches in that area. A good web-site to visit with information
about the South Coast is: \underline{http://www.southcoast.com.au/}. Canberra
itself has a lot of interesting paces to visit with the National Museum of
Australia \underline{http://www.nma.gov.au/} and Parliament House
\underline {http://www.aph.gov.au} and various local wineries being high on the list.

At Mt Stromlo you will be able to see the recently completed

\emph{Advanced Instrumentation Technology Centre} and the progress on renovation

of our heritage-listed Administration building, which was gutted during the 2003 fire.
