8 Nov 11: The official Seminars conference program is now online! Download it here.
Yes, it's on again! The (in)famous Stromlo Student Christmas Seminars are being held once more, this time on the new and improved dates of the 10th and 11th of November 2011.
The Stromlo Student Christmas Seminars are an opportunity for astronomy students from across Australia to meet, share their work, and practice their public speaking skills. The Seminars take the form of a student conference on Friday 11 Nov, where talks can be on any subject even remotely related to this year's theme: Raiders of the Lost Connections: Hunting Down the Missing Links in Astronomy. You can talk about anything you like - your work, your favourite sport, which Indiana Jones movie you think is best... anything you like at all!
This year, there will also be a series of lectures and workshops on data representation on Thurs 10 Nov, run by Mt Stromlo students, as well as a colloquium by visiting speaker Angel Lopez-Sanchez from AAO/Macquarie University. Details of these talks and sessions are available in the conference program.
Registration is totally free, and the Seminars are fully catered. We can also pitch in to help with travel and accommodation costs in certain circumstances. Talks will provisionally be 12 minutes long, with 3 minutes for questions, and prizes will be awarded for best talk, best scientific content, and the talk that best (or most cleverly) relates to this year's theme.
So what are you waiting for? Register for the Stromlo Student Christmas Seminars today! And if you have any questions, feel free to contact the Organising Committee.
