Student Seminar Extravaganza!
26/11: Abstracts and the full programme are now available!
24/11: Registrations are now closed. Thanks to everyone who has registered and we'll see you all on Friday!
The 6th Annual Stromlo Student Christmas Seminars are being held on the 28th of November 2008*. We invite students from all over Australia to attend and give talks. These seminars represent a chance for you to present a talk in a friendly environment on your thesis work, or on any astronomy related (however vaguely) subject you like.
Registration is FREE for students and we'll even throw in free snacks and dinner! How good is that? Pretty good.
Some background: "In the beginning, the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people mad and been widely regarded as a bad idea."
That's right, dust off your brown bath-robes because this year's theme is Life, the Universe and Everything, in honour of Douglas Adams' immortal work The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.
"There is a theory which states that if ever anybody discovers exactly what the Universe is for and why it is here, it will instantly disappear and be replaced by something even more bizarre and inexplicable. There is another theory which states that this has already happened."
Similar to last year, talks are 12 minutes long, with 3 minutes for questions at the end. We will have prizes for the best talks, and a special Zaphod Beeblebrox prize for the talk that manages to get "ten out of ten for style, but minus several million for good thinking". The (in)famous Seminar Bingo (TM) may also be making another appearance...

* We know, we know, it's a month before Christmas, but seriously who in academia works in December anyway?!
