"Google - LUV (Loon Ultra-Violet)"

We will give a brief overview our new proposed project, Google-LUV (Loon Ultra-Violet). Last week, we reached a verbal agreement with Google Project X, to build a network of ultra-violet telescopes to survey both the dynamic and dark Universe. The telescopes will be flown on Google Loon, which are long-duration, high-altitude balloons. Providing access to high cadence near-UV photometry. Google will provide the first balloon platform for a launch at the end of 2016/early 2017, and as they increase their balloon flights, they will give us a share, on the order of 20 for every 1000 balloons (per week) they launch. We will retrofit our balloons with small (20 - 30cm) telescopes operating in the near-UV (200 - 300nm). We will use the balloons to perform a wide-field, high-cadence UV survey. We are looking to develop the scientific goals and cases and are looking for people to participate. There will be plenty of time for discussion about ideas and what you’d like to do.
