Canberra, the National Capital, is situated approximately 250 km south-west of Sydney, the usual port-of-entry for international visitors. There are frequent domestic airline connections between the two cities. Canberra airport is only a few kilometers from the centre of the city and a taxi from the airport to the city centre will cost approximately A$15 (US$10). Overseas participants are reminded that Australia requires a (tourist) visa as a condition of entry for most foreign nationals. Visa applications can be obtained from Australian Consulates and Embassies or through your travel agent. Anyone who has any difficulty obtaining a visa should contact the Local Organizing Committee as soon as possible.

The majority of the Symposium participants will be accommodated in the "James Court Apartment Hotel" located in the centre of the city (74 Northbourne Avenue, Canberra, ACT 2601, Phone +61 2 6240 1234, FAX +61 2 6240 1235). This consists of one and two bedroom apartments. Each serviced apartment has a lounge (TV, video, FAX) and a fully equipped kitchen with a refrigerator, stove, microwave and dishwasher. Each bedroom has an individual bathroom (with a spa bath) and separate laundry. The hotel also has a gym, a pool, a sauna and a spa and there are a variety of restaurants on the lower levels of the building. Both one bedroom and two bedroom (2 bath room) apartments are available. The costs are A$118 (US$81) per night (one bedroom) and A$66.50 (US$46) per night (one bedroom in a two bedroom, 2 bathroom apartment, both bedrooms occupied) for a minimum 7 night stay, with additional nights on a pro-rata basis. For stays of 6 nights or less, the rates are A$135 (US$93) per night for a one bedroom apartment and A$85 (US$58) per night for one bedroom in a two bedroom, 2 bathroom apartment with both bedrooms occupied (these rates represent a substantial discount on the regular rates of A$205 and A$122.50 per night). Please specify your preferred option on the Registration Form. More expensive (4 star) and cheaper (`backpacker') accommodations are also available within walking distance of the conference venue. On the basis of the information provided in the registration form we will make the appropriate accommodation booking. Payment should be made directly to the hotel when leaving, except for a deposit for one night which is required at time of Registration.
