Location: The conference will be held in the Dome of the Academy of Sciences, surrounded by gardens, adjacent to the ANU campus, and overlooking Lake Burley Griffin in the heart of Canberra Australia's "bush capital'' (try visiting www.act.gov.au). November is early summer in Canberra and the climate is very pleasant (17-25C during the day), with many flowers and the summer wattles blooming. The city has many cultural sites that merit a visit, such as the National Gallery, Parliament House and the High Court. For those with greenish interests, the Botanic Gardens, around Black Mountain Tower and close to the conference venue, are a must. Their collection consists exclusively of Australian-native plants, with a specimen of the famous Wollemi pine and beautiful views of the city.

Social program: The traditional symposium dinner and the always-succesful Australian wine-tasting evening will be organized, as well as a tour of Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve. In and around the Australian National Capital, there are several interesting places to visit for those with more time on their hands, such as Lanyon Homestead, with the Nolan collection, Bungendore heritage village and the district wineries.

Around 4.24 am (local daylight saving time) on Monday 19 Nov, the Leonids shower will reach maximum, possibly storm level (2000 events per hour predicted). Check out SPACE.com or the IMO webpages for details !
