Detector History

• Test980312 Test of focus variation across chip after re-assembly to fix focus.
• Dewar 9 transported to MSO to fix focus problem. Upon opening the dewar, it was discovered that wire wraps, to enable amplifier D to be read out, were placed on the pins of CCD9 which did not allow it to be fully seated into its socket and to be properly tensioned onto the cold finger. The focal plane, FP9, was rewired to allow CCD9 to readout from amplifiers C and D. See Revision C 12-Mar-98 for details. Test980331 details the results of test of performance of CCD9 using the SDSU I controller once the dewar was reassembled. The results are that amplifier C is operating extremely well with read noise of 4.4 e­ and gain of 1.4e­/ADU. Dark current is .008 e­/pixel/sec and is constant over the entire chip. This indicates that the chip is sitting flat on the cold finger and we have fixed the focus problem. Amplifier D is much harder to tune and will need much more work.
• At SSO with CCD9 connected to DBS red, spectrum was taken using amplifier C as the grating was stepped and FWHM graphed versus column pixel. Test980402 details results.
• Focus problem has reappeared. Test980507 contains results of spectrum taken at SSO to highlight problem and some tests to isolate the cause. Tests of varying DBS red rotator angle and measuring focus did not show any correlation of focus with rotator angle.
