1 Purpose

This document details the list of spare parts required for the Gemini Near-infrared Integral Field Spectrograph (NIFS) Critical Design Review as described in the NIFS Statement of Work clause 4.3 (12).

3 Introduction

The Gemini Near-infrared Integral Spectrograph (NIFS) is expected to have a 10 year nominal lifetime. Only the cryocoolers are expected to need refurbishment or replacement during this period. Spare O-rings should be stocked as they should be replaced whenever sealed joints are disrupted. Other spare parts are recommended to cover random breakdowns of bearings or electronics equipment, to cover wear of bushings in mechanisms, or to cover accidental damage during servicing. These items are listed below.

Some electronic circuit boards have been developed by ANU. It would be cost effective to fabricate spares for these boards during the manufacturing phase. To this end, Gemini should give an early indication of which spares are to be procured.

Notes:

These spares are suitable for both science and OIWFS detector controllers.
These boards contain areas that have to be populated differently for the science and OIWFS detectors. If spares are required for immediate board swapping, versions for HAWAII-1 and HAWAII-2 detectors should both be procured. Otherwise single boards will suffice, to be modified if needed.
