1 Purpose

 

This document defines the weight budget for the Gemini Near-infrared Integral-Field Spectrograph (NIFS).

3 Introduction

 

The Gemini Near-infrared Integral-Field Spectrograph (NIFS) is required to have 1) a weight of 2000 kg, 2) a center of gravity on the port axis 1000 mm from the mechanical interface on the ISS, and 3) an out of balance torque less than 400 Nm with respect to the telescope elevation axis (NIFS Functional and Performance Requirements Document, SDN0003.02; ICD 1.5.3/1.9). This document defines the weight budget for the instrument and the current uncertainties in the various weight estimates.

 

4 Weight Budget

 

The weight budget is presented in Table 1.
