Hi Simon:

Good to hear everyone is alive, and that your house is OK.

So sorry to hear about Ken's and Mike Bseell's house. I hope they will recover
somehow soon.

Good to see that the HST deadline was postponed. I told Steve that the least we
could do and I am glad he responded. Good to see about his other offer of help.
There was also an AAS alert today with a call for help.

Just sat next to Matt Mountain for two days in a JWST mtg. I think there is
willingness in the community here to help weherever we can to help you overcome
the loss of NIFS etc. ASU can offer some mechanical shop time for free -- they
do space-qualified stuff -- all they need is CAD drawings, but a way would need
to be found to pay for materials. I would think other institution could do that
as well. Matt thought this was great, I am not sure who will take the lead
orginizing this from the US side. I will c.c. Matt Mountain and Bruce Partridge
(AAS) on this. If it is centrally organized with the weight of the AAS and
US-Gemini behind it, hopefully the response will be significant. At the least
simple parts could be made this way by the time you have your shop back.

Wish the wife and kid all the best, and everyone else.

Hi Rogier,

Thanks for this. Either Penny Sackett or John Norris will probably also contact
Steve Beckwith directly to request 1-2 week repreive to ease the pressure. As
you say this doesn't affect me/us but may provide breathing space for some of
the other staff.

Regards,
Simon
