We were very sorry to hear the news today that the Mt Stromlo Observatory
has been destroyed in the weekend's bushfires.
Please accept our very sincere sympathy at the loss of your workshops,
facilities and telescopes. I understand some Mt Stromlo staff have lost
their houses as well. I am very pleased to have had the opportunity last
year to visit such a scientifically and historically important observatory,
in such a beautiful location, and feel very sad to think that it has been
largely destroyed.
I am encouraged to see news reports that the ANU is planning to rebuild the
facility. In the meantime, if we can assist you in any way please do not
hestitate to contact us.
