Peter,
We are very saddened to hear the news about the fires in Canberra and the reports of the loss of the Mt Stromlo obsservatory. We hope that you, Ceci, your family and all of the people from Stromlo are doing well. While we are encouraged to hear that ANU is planning to rebuild the observatory, the historical loss must be staggering.
I only visited with you, Ceci and at Stromlo for a very short period of time but I enjoyed it there and I felt that the observatory was a very special place. Cindy became very attached to the facility and to the mob or kangaroos that lived on the grounds. She showed the 'roos to Katie, Emma and me while we were down in August. It is all very hard to believe!
Best of luck getting through this difficult time and know that our thoughts are with you. Remember that if you are ever in the states, we would love to return your hospitality.
Sincerely,
Jim Westfall
