Dear Brian,

there is very little I guess that can be said. All of
us at Paranal are shocked by the news from Canberra.

Having spent quite some time at Stromlo and observed
at the 74" I was horified by the pictures of the dome.
Of course we are all greatly sadened by the loss of the
venerable 50".

our thoughts are with you. I hope that something more
concrete than thoughts can be done to rebuild the
cradle of australian astronomy.

 From your emails I gather that your property has not
been damaged. May the winds protect you.
