The 2.3 metre


The 2.3m is the cuboid building in the foreground. Other telescopes in the picture are the AAO's UK Schmidt on the left, the AAO's 3.9m AAT to the right and MSSSO's 24 inch on the far right

The 2.3m is an "alt/az" telescope. As the telescope moves to track an object, the building rotates to keep the telescope pointing out the "slit".

The 2.3m is the largest telescope operated by MSSSO and is sited on Siding Spring mountain.

Instruments can be mounted at either of the Nasmyth focii or at the Cassegrain focus.
