When a star like the sun grows old, it will blow off the outer half of its mass in
a dust-laden wind.
Astronomers on the 2.3m tonight are working simultaneously with observers on the
Very Large Telescope in Chile to determine the metal content of stars with winds
in order to see how the dust in the wind depends on the metal content of the star. |
