Soon after their discovery, the dwarf planet Haumea and its moons offer an unparalleled observation opportunity that will not repeat for 141 years. For the next few years the orbit of the satellite Namaka around Haumea is nearly edge-on to our line of sight. By measuring when Namaka passes in front of and behind Haumea, we will be able to very accurately determine many properties of these small icy worlds. |
