Project Description: |
When a star like the sun grows old, it will blow off the outer half of its mass in
a 'superwind' that will envelop the star in dust and
gas. This wind will be enriched in elements formed in the star by nuclear burning processes.
Astronomers on the 2.3m tonight are using infrared detectors to
study stars in the 'superwind' state to try to learn more about the superwind and the element enrichment in it. |
