Please read the following background information.

Registration Form

The LOC are now asking all the invited participants to complete the registration form in order to book their accommodation, provide payment details, and specify the title of their talk. The registration fee for the conference will be A$400 (~US$263).

The deadline for registrations is 4 June 1999. Later registrations may not be accepted.

Participants and Talks

A list of the pre-registered participants and the nominal titles of their talks is available. All participants will be able to give a talk. The final program will be announced after registration is complete.

Meeting Dates and Format

The meeting dates are 24-28 August 1999. The first session of the conference will begin early on 24 August, so that participants will need to arrive at Dunk Island by 23 August. The final session of the meeting will conclude by lunchtime on 28 August.

Each day will consist of 4 hours of talks and discussion sessions before lunch and 2 hours in the early evening before dinner. There will be no evening session on the final day. This format will leave most of the afternoon free for informal discussions or recreation.

Participants must check with their travel agent or local Australian consulate whether they need a visa to enter Australia.

Accommodation and Reservations

The meeting is being held at the Dunk Island Resort. Follow the link for full details of all the facilities at the resort. If necessary, you can phone Dunk Island Resort on +61-7-40688199 (or fax +61-7-40688528). The conference manager at the resort is Mara Gavranic. The island has no Internet connections - this is a feature, not a bug.

Accommodation and all meals on the island cost A$198.00 (~US$130) per day per person for people sharing two to a room (twin-share), and A$247.50 (~US$163) per day per person for people wanting a room to themselves (sole-use). These charges must be paid in advance (see below for methods of payment). Recreational activities, drinks and other additional expenses can be paid for when checking out of the resort.

Meeting participants are most welcome to bring family or guests. Please ensure that all extra people are entered on the registration form.

If you are sharing a room, please indicate in the Comments section of the registration form the names of people you would like to share with. We will do our best to pair you up.

Payments and Cancellations

The preferred method of payment is via credit card using our secure WWW server. Please read these notes on security issues. We will also accept credit card details faxed to +61-2-62490233 (addressed `Attention: Assistant Business Manager, Mount Stromlo Observatory'). If these methods of payment are not suitable for you, please contact the LOC to discuss alternatives.

The accommodation bookings made when registering can be cancelled without cost until 23 July 1999. No cancellations can be made after this date, and you will be billed the full amount of your reserved accommodation and registration fee. Receipts for all payments will be issued at the meeting.

Insurance

All participants are strongly advised to ensure that they have travel and medical insurance to cover their visit to Australia. The LOC and the sponsoring institutions will not accept liability for costs incurred through sickness, accidents, loss of property, or cancellation of arrangements.

Facilities and Costs for Children

The room rate for children is $30 per child per night for children between 3 and 14 years. Children under this are free of charge. Charges for meals for children are $10 for breakfast, $13 for lunch, $22 for dinner.

There is a kid's club at the resort (see under Facilities at the Dunk Island Resort site). If the children attend the evening kid's club between 5.00-9.00pm the charges are: 3-5 year-olds - $25 per child (dinner included); 6-14 year-olds - no charge for the club, but a charge of $1 per year of age to a maximum of $10 for dinner.
