Case study II - em lines at z~4

• 8m telescope, 15 arcmin FOV (achievable)

• Slits on Rដ objects, “Pseudoslitless” mode

  • 5000 galaxies per night

• Reach flux 10-18 ergs cm-2s-1 in 1 night

  • ~1% are Lya emitters at this flux (Steidel et al.)
  • (Probably more, since not using UV dropout criterion)

• 4 nights

  • Cover ~ 0.5 deg patch of sky
  • Find at least ~ 200 emitters
    See z~4 LSS filaments and measure velocity structures?
